Doeren: "We Had A Good Gameplan"

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head coach Dave Doeren met with the media following the 26-14 loss to Clemson.

"Hard fought game. I thought our players definitely competed hard. I was proud of them for that. It's not a moral victory by any means. We do not accept losing here, but I'm proud of the way we competed."

"I thought we prepared well. I thought we had a good plan."

"I'm disappointed in the penalties that we had tonight. It's something we have to clean up and we'll continue to work on it."

"I thought we were very physical with them. The guys played hard, and special teams were probably a big factor in field position, which hurt us in the football game."

"We had a couple of big momentum plays that unfortunately got called back and that hurt us in the second half because I thought we had a touchdown there with Bryan."

"It's really a night of little setbacks here and there that killed drives."

"I appreciate our fans and students for coming out the way the did and supported us. It was a special evening that way. My first Thursday night game here and it was everything as advertised. I'm very thankful of the fanbase, and it meant a lot."

"I think our kids are tough. They are very tough. We just can't beat ourselves. We don't have a lot of depth. We played a lot of young guys. Rob Crisp was out of the lineup."

"They are a good football team and they will probably win a bunch of football games, the thing we're going to do is not let it beat us twice."

"He was right in front of me. He didn't go out of bounds, and unfortunately they blew it dead and they couldn't review it. It's an unfortunate deal. I know the guy felt bad about it... can't do anything about it. It's just the way it is."

"We tackled well in space. We kept the ball inside for the most part."

"We kept them inside and in front. We gave up one explosive play for a touchdown and our goal tonight was not to do that."

"Our guys were locked in. Coach Huxtable and the defensive staff had a nice gameplan and the kids executed."

"I think we could have played better. We missed some tackles in the run game, but it wasn't really anything fancy."

"It hurts when you lose a starter period. We were down defensively, we were running out of bodies there at the end. The guys continued to battle. They were going for two and we didn't let them in. I'm just proud of the way we finished."

"[Shadrach Thornton] was in there some and some of the plays we had, the way we read them, he just didn't get the ball on them.... part of the problem was we really couldn't run the ball well inside and we had to run it outside and that's really not his forte."
