RALEIGH, N.C. -- Dave Doeren updated the status of Brandon Mitchell and several other players after today's practice.

"[Brandon Mitchell is] probably 50% as far as the number of reps that you would take going into the game. He got better all week. He really ran probably for about 20-25 minutes today and said he had no pain. We've made a lot of progress and we'll see what the next 24 hours brings us with him."

"Compared to where he was a week ago, he's way ahead. We'll see what the gameday atmosphere does to him. Sometimes guys feel really good."

"I feel great about him right now knowing what to do, and the scheme. His mobility today was the best we've seen so far."

"He's close man, he's close. I still have to see him on gameday. I want to see... he'll tell me. He knows what I want. We'll see where he's at on gameday."

"Not off of a surgical deal like him. I want to make sure we don't do it too early. It would be different if it was a muscle thing and you knew you'd have two weeks to rest the muscle afterwards. If he re-breaks the bone, it's done. We have to be smart about how we do it."

"There is a possibility [with Rashard Smith]. He's questionable. He feels a lot better today. It's all about the swelling, if the swelling is out. Structurally he's great. There is no issues, it's just we have a bunch of swelling in there and skill guys don't really handle it that well. As soon as that swelling is out he'd be ready and he said he felt a lot better today."

"[Jarvis Byrd] is seeing a specialist here this week, so he's out for the game. We'll know something soon."

"Clemson got caught a couple of times just playing some coverage, and [Syracuse] ran the ball and popped it."

"Their tailbacks are really good. Those two are special players for them."

"If you can protect you [attack Syracuse deep]. I think Syracuse is an aggressive secondary and an aggressive scheme defensively."
