Ratliffe Compares Rivals

Laurinburg (NC) Scotland County quarterback Jaylend Ratliffe talks about a recent visit to NC State.

It was a perfect opportunity for Jaylend Ratliffe and he didn't pass it up. The Scotland County quarterback has offers from both NC State and UNC and he watched the two programs go head to head in person a little over a week ago.

Ratliffe had previously visited Carter-Finley for the Pack's game against Syracuse and unfortunately for NC State both of Ratliffe's trips have been losses this year.

He didn't have a rooting interest in this particular contest since both NC State and North Carolina are schools he likes.

"It was a great atmosphere man. I loved it to be honest. I just like being around a lot of people at big games. I really like the atmosphere.

"I was really watching the offense, watching both offenses. I thought they both played good. It was great because the game was close and exciting."

Ratliffe is a dual-threat that can legitimately beat a defense with both his arm or his legs and he appreciates the fact that both teams he saw  employ offenses that would suit him well and make use of all his good attributes.

"It kind of looked like Carolina's offense is faster but NC State was running the no huddle. I like both offenses. Both offenses have their quarterback running, Carolina with (Marquise) Williams and State did too. State's offense is built around the QB."

Claiming that every school is on equal footing Ratliffe declined to put any program at the top of his list but the schools that have offered – NCSU, UNC, Georgia Tech – do have special appeal.

In addition to the offense at State, which he found to his liking, Ratliffe feels good about the future of the program because of the coaching staff.

"I talked to Coach Doeren when they were warming up and he just said he was glad to see me. I know Coach White pretty well. They're a great coaching staff it seems like at least. That's what I like about them. They're laid back. They want me but at the same time they want me to make the best decision for me whatever it is."
