Barnes Planning to Visit NC State

Saluda (SC) offensive lineman Kwamelle Barnes hopes to visit NC State.

Saluda (SC) offensive and defensive lineman Kwamelle Barnes has an offer from South Carolina St. but he's hoping for more.

NC State has been keeping a close eye on Barnes' progression throughout the 2013 season. The senior lineman was scheduled to visit for the UNC game but a scheduling conflict prevented that trip.  However, he did visit earlier this year for a Junior Day and he plans to return to the school on November 23.

"When I was there before I enjoyed meeting all the coaches. That helped me get to know the school a little better," said Barnes. "I watched practice a little bit and I liked seeing how the intensity is," he said.

Barnes said he was not able to see much of the city or the surrounding area so that's something he might want to do on this trip if he has time.

Since that earlier visit to the school the coaches have been sending Barnes pieces of mail about twice per week on a consistent basis.

"I've tried calling them on the phone but I haven't gotten them to pick up lately. They know I've called. Coach Kitchings is recruiting me. I believe they have a good coaching staff. They're trying to recruit the best guys for NC State and build themselves up every year."

The 6-4, 283 pound senior plays defensive tackle as well as offensive line at Saluda and is a candidate to get a shot on either side in college. His size is more like that of a defensive tackle or offensive guard and that's noteworthy but if he plays at a place like South Carolina St. he could certainly have the size for offensive tackle.

Barnes has visited South Carolina, South Carolina State and Appalachian State as well and is saying he has interest in all of those schools. He recently made a highlight tape of his senior season and is hoping that does the trick and leads to more offers.
