Gottfried: "I Like Their Team"

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head coach Mark Gottfried met with the media following Tuesday's practice.

"I think he's more comfortable playing there. I also think just the fact that we have two other forwards in the game, it also helps T.J. get out on the break a little more. He's not the guy that has to be one of the better rebounders. He can still rebound, but it also gives him a chance to run so he's just more comfortable [at small forward]."

"We have guys that are capable of making the three. We haven't done it a lot yet, but I think we can. We just have to make sure we do a great job of attacking zone defenses."

"I see a lot of coaches that haven't played a lot of zone that are playing more zone this year."

"It's something you have to work on. We've spent a lot of time working on our zone offense."

"In practice we've spent a lot of time shooting three's, three's that we think we'll get against the zone. I think our guys are better shooters than their numbers are saying right now."

"It's early, but I want those guys to step up confidently and take an open shot, whether that's Tyler, Desmond, Cat... whoever it may be. Jump up there and shoot the ball and hopefully they are going to make some."

"We moved the ball a lot better than we did in the first half, and we also got out and ran more. That solves a lot of zones."

"I like their team. Bill Carmody had recruited a collection of shooters, and I think Chris has done a nice job of putting them in good sets where those guys get shots. Just about every other shot they take is a three, and I think he's utilizing that."

"They were leading Missouri at the half, and they played UCLA tough. UCLA went 13-for-17 from 3... outside of that I'm not sure they would have beat them. He's doing a great job with that group."

"All that depends on your personnel. If you have three or four guys on the floor that can make the three you'll take more."

"I think [Cat Barber] is growing in the position. He's gaining confidence, and he's learning everything that we're doing. Everyday he seems more comfortable. Hopefully he'll continue with that."
