"I'm on break until January 5th so that was going to be the best chance for me to make it to a game," said Abu. "I thought it was great. That was the first game I've ever been to so I really got to see the atmosphere, experience the fans."
What did Abu think of the Pack's performance in the loss to Missouri?
"It was a game we should have won," he stated. "It was good to see that they were playing a top 25 team and should have beat them. Make another play here or there and we win that game.
"Watching up close, I got to see how the coaches stressed playing good defense. Plus, their togetherness is good. Seeing that and hanging out with them, it felt good. I missed all of those guys."
Abu is regarded as one of the top power forwards in the country, and he has helped lead Kimball Union Academy (NH) to a 7-1 start. He says that the confidence he gained on the AAU circuit has carried over to his senior season.
"From playing AAU, I've carried over my aggressiveness and assertiveness," said Abu. "I'm trying to dominate every night. I keep trying to get better at everything though. You're never where you want to be."
Abu inked with NC State in November after considering Florida, UCONN, and Providence among others. He stated that he remains thrilled with his decision and there was never a key issue that played a role in his decision.
"There wasn't a single factor," he said. "I picked NC State based off feel. I wanted to go where I could be an impact player and help them win. It felt great when I was there on my visits. It felt like home.
"The way State is playing reinforces my decision, but I always felt like I made the right decision anyways."
