Gottfried: "We Were Really Bad"

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- NC State head coach Mark Gottfried met with the media to discuss the game against North Carolina.

"I thought in the first half North Carolina was very good."

"Offensively, we were really bad. You have to give those guys credit, I thought they defended us very well, and we did not react well to it either. We did not move well without the ball. We were soft with the ball. They stripped it out of our hands, they blocked shots. Then we had good shots and couldn't make any of the good ones. We missed foul shots."

"We just have to execute better and one of the five guys might want to look up and see how much time is on the clock, especially my point guards. That is not very good."

"I thought the other guys (excluding Cat Barber) on the floor were not moving very well without the ball. Now he is out there thinking ‘Who am I going to pass it to without them stealing the ball?' So his answer was to take it to the basket. It puts a lot of pressure on the ball handler to try to make a play."

"We still need for our forwards to score."

"Today, Kyle just struggled. For a young guy, I have not really seen Kyle struggle like that. We all have them and he had one today. [He] could not get the ball in the basket."

"We were able to get to the rim with our perimeter players so we just stayed with it."

"I don't think it was only just Desmond (Lee). I thought in the second half our team did a much better job. We showed a lot of spirit in the second half. We just looked dazed in the first half."
