Recruiting Scene: NC State offensive coordinator Matt Canada, also the Pack's quarterbacks coach, will have the job of developing McClendon.
"We've had great conversations," McClendon said of Canada. "We've really got to know each other, and I'm becoming more familiar with how they are going to play."
Those conversations first began back in February when McClendon was in Raleigh for the Wolfpack's Junior Day. At the time he didn't have an offer but he also admitted that he really wasn't considering NC State... until that trip.
"It was a great experience," he said. "I really didn't expect it to be that good. It opened my eyes to them."
He picked up that offer from NC State in May, and McClendon quickly catapulted the Wolfpack to the top of his list.
"I already liked them before getting the offer and once they offered it I could then look even harder at them."Why NC State? "It's a great school, and I like the campus and facilities. I can stay close to home and my family and friends can come see me play."
Picked NC State Over: Miami, Tennessee,
Virginia, FSU, North Carolina, Wake Forest, East Carolina, and
UNC-Charlotte and several other programs
Scouting Report: McClendon has all the tools you look for in a high-major college football quarterback recruit. Long, lank arms... loose, whip-like delivery. Good athlete... above-average arm strength and accuracy. Blessed with loads of potential, McClendon has an extremely high ceiling.
