In his new role, Demarest will lead and manage the creative development and delivery for NC State Athletics' overall communications and marketing efforts, while ensuring alignment and collaboration with the university's messaging efforts. He will also oversee the creation, content and execution of integrated marketing and promotions strategies aimed to increase brand awareness, revenue-generation and attendance for NC State Athletics, in alignment with the department's Strategic Plan. Additionally, he will serve as the department's lead spokesperson and media contact on most non-sport related issues.
A Scotch Plains, N.J., native, Demarest has spent the last 12 years at the University of Florida, where most recently he served as Assistant Athletics Director for Strategic Communications and New Media. He has overseen UF's social media, digital and mobile strategies, positioning the Gators at the forefront of social media on the collegiate level by building a social reach of nearly two millions followers – an increase of nearly 600 percent in a two-year period.
Demarest also spearheaded the development of UF's editorial units, hiring two staff writers and shifting the philosophy to delivering unique and engaging content for its fan base.
He served as the primary publicist for Florida men's basketball team from 2002-11, a program that claimed the 2006 and 2007 NCAA Tournament titles and was the only program in over 20 years to win back-to-back crowns.
From 1995-2002, Demarest worked in the Sports Information Office at Louisiana State University, where he was the secondary contact for the football program and the primary contact for seven other sports. He worked with eight national championship teams at LSU from 1995-2002.
Demarest earned his B.A. in communications with a concentration in broadcast journalism from William Paterson University in 1993.
He is married to the former Doreen Valentine from Aaronsburg, Pa. The couple has three children.
