Two teams with 6-6 ACC records will clash when NC State travels to Clemson Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. The winners will stay in the top six of the conference standings.
SOMETHING TO LOOK FOR
Neither Clemson nor NC State rely on the 3-point shot for offense. Both teams also are among the nation's best in guarding the 3-point arc. NC State's opponents shoot just .305 from deep, third in the ACC and 27th in the nation. Clemson leads the nation with a .272 3-point field goal defense. Don't expect a lot of 3-point attempts on Tuesday night.
ADVENTURES OF NC STATE
The Wolfpack flew to Syracuse on Saturday just hours before playing the top-ranked Orange that evening. The flight was initially to leave Friday at 5 p.m. but the was delayed several times due to its inability to arrive at RDU. The team's staff learned Friday night at 10:15 that the team charter was stuck in Miami, Fla., due to several issues. The plane landed in Raleigh early Saturday morning around 1:30 a.m. Due to FAA regulations, the crew was not able to fly again for 12 hours. The Wolfpack left for Syracuse at 1:30 p.m. that day and just hours later played the nation's No. 1 team to a single point.
BIG-TIME SCORING LEADER
T.J. Warren, ranked seventh in the nation in scoring, is the top scorer among players in the ACC, American, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC.
THE PACK WHEN T.J. GETS BUCKETS
Over the past two seasons, the Wolfpack is 33-14 when Warren scores in double figures and 20-8 when he leads the team in scoring.
#TONYBUCKETS DOUBLING UP
T.J. Warren posted his seventh career double-double in the win over Wake. He scored 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, his fifth double-double of the season. Warren reached the mark vs. Cincinnati (13 and 10), Eastern Kentucky (30 and 11), Tennessee (21 and 11) and Missouri (24 and 13).
WHEN RALSTON STARTS
Since moving into the starting lineup seven games ago, Ralston Turner is averaging 13.9 points per game. He scored 23 points vs. Maryland and 17 against Miami and Wake Forest. NC State is 5-2 over the last seen games.
RALSTON's BEST SHOOTING
Ralston Turner came to NC State knowing he'd be relied on to make 3-point baskets. He made 95 longrange shots in two seasons at LSU. He's having his best college season shooting the trey, with a team-best 50 made 3-pointers on 38.5% shooting.
DIALING LONG DISTANCE
The victories over Miami and Wake Forest featured 15-for-38 shooting from long range. State was 7-for-20 shooting from beyond the arc at Miami and then the Pack improved to 8-for-18 from deep against Wake Forest. It was the most made 3-pointers over a twogame span this season.
NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP
T.J. Warren is in rare company. He has 555 points this season, the third-most in NC State history for a sophomore. His scoring average is on pace for second all-time for a sophomore, behind only David Thompson's 24.7.
TIC TAC ROAD
This three-game road stretch marks the first time since 1991 the Wolfpack has had three straight ACC games on the road. That season, NC State played at Maryland, Virginia and Georgia Tech over a 9-day span. (H/T Tony Haynes)
WOLFPACK INSIDE THE ARC
No team in college basketball relies more on 2-point baskets than NC State. 63.1 percent of the Pack's points come from inside the arc, the highest 2-point distribution in the country. T.J. Warren shoots .575 on his attempts inside the arc.
GET TO THE LINE
NC State has an 8-0 record when shooting the same number or more free throws than its opponents. State is 7-1 when making the same or more foul shots.
DESMOND PUTS IT BACK
Desmond Lee, who started the season's first 19 games, made a late-game put-back to lift the Wolfpack to two consecutive wins. He rebounded a T.J. Warren miss with 19 seconds left in regulation to force overtime vs. Georgia Tech. He then scored a put-back with :09 on the clock to ice NC State's win over FSU.
LIFT FROM LEWIS
Tyler Lewis, who has started the last three games, has provided the Pack with a spark in recent games. With NCSU trailing Georgia Tech 52-41 in the second half, Lewis buried a pair of 3-pointers 39 seconds apart. Lewis finished with 10 points, his first double-digit scoring game since the season opener vs. Appalachian State. Lewis added six points and seven assists with no turnovers during the win over Florida State.
