Pack Grinds Past Canes, 67-58

GREENSBORO, N.C. - T.J. Warren and Ralston Turner combined to score 46 points, as the NC State men's basketball team advanced to Friday's quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament with a 67-58 victory against 10th-seeded Miami Thursday evening at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Warren, who was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Year on Tuesday, led all scorers with a game-high 24 points. Turner added 22 points, including a 5-of-8 performance from beyond the arc. Anthony `Cat' Barber led all players with seven assists.

Miami (17-16, 7-11 ACC) was led in scoring by Rion Brown with 22 points.

NC State (20-12, 9-9 ACC) opened the contest on a 10-2 run prior to the first media timeout. Warren scored five points during this stretch, while Turner added a three-point field goal, as the Pack opened the game 4-of-8 (.500) shooting from the floor.

State took a 26-22 lead into the halftime locker room. Warren led all scorers with 12 first-half points, while Brown led Miami with eight points. The Pack held a 12-1 advantage in points off turnovers in the half, forcing Miami into nine first half turnovers and turning the ball over just one time.

The Pack came out strong in the second half, quickly going on a 6-2 run over the first 2:31 and forcing a Miami timeout. State forced Miami into two turnovers on back-to-back possessions that led to two quick baskets from Warren and Kyle Washington.

After the Hurricanes took their first lead of the game with 14:16 to go, State responded by scoring the next five points, including a Warren jumper and Turner's third three-point field goal of the game from the right baseline.

Miami regained the lead, 53-51, on a three-point field goal by Davon Reed with 3:52 to go, but Warren and Turner combined to score the next seven points for State to give the Pack a five-point lead with 1:46 left in the game.
