Virginia Beach (VA) Ocean Lakes linebacker Jahvoni Simmons has seen his stock explode recently and he's quickly emerging as one of the mid-Atlantic's most sought after linebackers. This past weekend he put his skills on display against some of the southeast's top prospects at the Nike Combine held in Charlotte.
Simmons is a thick prospect that is fluid and moves extremely well
given his size. Physically, he still has a ton of upside and that is
one reason why he's become one of the most coveted 'backers in the
Pack Pride caught up with Simmons after his performance last
weekend. He talked about how he felt he performed and the latest on
his scholarship offers.
"It was definitely a great camp, great competition out here today,"
said Simmons. "All the kids gave 100% and it was overall a great
camp and great competition. I felt like I did pretty good. I
could've done better because there's always room for improvement but
I feel like I did a fair job.
"As for my recruiting, my latest offer was from Michigan State and
the one before that was from Alabama through coach Scott."
Simmons had an opportunity to visit both NC State and UNC earlier in
the year and he had similar observations for both programs.
"Those two schools are great programs. Being that they're in-state
rivals, they try to compete with each other. The way they coach, the
coaches down there, I love all of them. Overall, they're both good
schools. Coach Barlow is recruiting me for State. I've got a great
relationship with him. He's a pretty down to earth guy. He seems
like he knows what he's talking about. We have a lot in common and
he's a pretty good coach."
Simmons said he doesn't have any visits on the immediate horizon and
is wide open currently.
He is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 2 middle linebacker in
the nation by Scout.com
