3-star quarterback Nick Johns will announce his decision soon and only three schools remain in the running.
Johns was in Ashburn (VA) last week at the regional Elite 11 and that brought some of the East Coast's top quarterbacks to the practice fields for the NFL's Washington Redskins.
Scout.com ranked John's as the 2nd-best quarterback of the day behind Brandon Wimbush of New Jersey. That's worth mentioning because NC State is one of the few schools Johns is still considering.
"It's between UVA, Maryland and NC State. I should be ready to make a decision in the next two or three weeks. I don't have an exact day but it will be sometime soon," said Johns this weekend.
According to Johns those three ACC programs are running fairly even but he did admit that in the final hours he needs to look a little bit more into the Wolfpack.
"I do need to look more into them. I've heard they run the same type of thing the other schools do. They have a quarterback that's going to be a senior the year I'm going to be a freshman. They had a quarterback that transferred in from Florida."
Johns visited NC State earlier in the year but if the Pack is to land him, they'll likely have to make up some ground on the Terps and Cavs.
The Gonzaga quarterback seems to know more about Virginia and Maryland.
"I really like the way UVA runs their offense. I also like the opportunity to get a great degree and play early there. The same is true for Maryland. They both have unique situations and it's really the same thing between those two."
If NC State has a chance we should know in the next week. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada plans to go watch Johns in the days ahead. The two should be in contact around that time and depending on what Canada says and how much interest Johns has he will determine whether NC State can keep pace with the other two schools.
