"My coach came up to me at lunch and said NC State wanted to officially offer me," said Shutack. "I called coach Uremovich after school, and he said they were offering me a scholarship.
"It's exciting. They've been recruiting me for a while now. I know most of the staff is from Northern Illinois, and they were very successful there."
Shutack actually unofficially visited NC State last month.
"I really liked the town of Raleigh," he said. "It seems like there's always something going on down there, and the weather is nice. I liked that. I got to see the campus and that was pretty cool too.
"When I sat down with coach Doeren he seemed like a really cool person. He told me that they needed to start recruiting good players there. That was their goal."
Western Michigan had offered the 6-foot-6, 285-pounder prior to NC State, and Shutack says a few other schools could be close.
"Tennessee, Michigan State, Missouri are really interested in me," he said. "I think I'll camp at those schools and Ohio State because it sounds like they want to offer me."
Shutack recently performed extremely well at the Nike Camp (video below), and he believes more offers will come his way.
"I've gone up against kids who are have offers," he recently told Scout.com. "I went up against (2015 defensive end) Jashon Cornell and me and him split one on ones reps, so it's kind of frustrating to go up against all these kids with 20 times more offers than me. Mostly, I'm looking forward to is finally getting more offers and having double-digit offers."
An all-conference and all-area selection as a junior, Shutack admits that he isn't close to making a decision.
"I don't have a timetable," he said. "I just know it's going to be a while."
