Beasley Pondering Wolfpack Walk-On Spot

Durham (NC) Hillside linebacker Keith Beasley is considering an opportunity to walk on at NC State.

While much attention has been on Hillside offensive lineman Emanuel McGirt, NC State has also had its eye on another Hornet standout. Linebacker Keith Beasley (6-1, 210 pounds) was an all-conference performer in 2013 and he also happens to be a tremendous student. That combination led the Wolfpack to offer Beasley a preferred walk-on spot about a month ago.

As a junior Beasley tallied 70 tackles, eight sacks and 10 tackles for loss while helping Hillside to a 9-3 record. That's helped him land several offers and he updated Pack Pride with the latest on his recruitment.

"I actually have offers from Wofford. They were my first. And then I have Army, Brown, Gardner-Webb and my most recent one was from Western Carolina.

"State offered me a preferred walk-on spot because of my academics. Right now I'm number one in my class. I can get into the school academically. I would probably be able to get an academic scholarship if I decided to go there."

Beasley visited NC State recently with teammate Emanuel McGirt and he said he loved the family atmosphere he experienced while in Raleigh.

"Emanuel, he's my best friend. State was his first offer and he was like, if State gives me an offer we've got to go there together. Back at that time, maybe a month ago, I had no idea that State would even look at me like that. Then when I got the preferred walk-on he was edging me on but I wanted to just see what other offers I get.

"I love State, actually. I feel like every time I go there it's really personal. When I look at the school, the players and the coaches, it's almost like a family. That's something I would like if I decided to go over there. I really will consider State because I know they have a great engineering program. I want to major in Biomedical Engineering. I don't a lot about how good their Biomedical Engineering program is yet that's something I will take into consideration."

Because of his achievements in the class room, Beasley is seriously considering the Ivy League and he plans to camp at least a couple of schools from there later this summer.

"The only two I plan to camp at this summer are Harvard and Princeton," he said. "The chance to go play in the Ivy League would be big. The Ivy League name itself sticks out from other colleges. My mom, she actually went to Brown so she's pushing the Ivy League."

In addition to Harvard and Princeton, Beasley said he's really hoping to land offers from Vanderbilt and Stanford.

"I want to go look at some of the Ivy League schools this summer and I plan to go over to NC State again. I probably won't camp at State. I'll just go over there for another visit."

Beasley said he's is in no rush to finalize his college plans. He's content to wait it out awhile to evaluate all the opportunities that come his way.

"Honestly, there really isn't a time line for me. I want to wait it out and see if I get the colleges I want. Once all the camps are over I'll try to decide and if not, I'll just wait a little later."
