Charlotte (NC) Hough forward Luke Maye was one of the most productive players at the NBPA Top 100 Camp. Here is an update on his recruitment.

What was it like for you going toe-to-toe with some of the best big men at the NBPA Top 100 Camp?
It [was] great. I love going against the best, and I just want to keep showing my skills and getting better from playing against those players. I know I'm one of the best as well, and I'm doing what I can to get up there.

What's your current height and weight now?
I'm 6-foot-8 and 235 pounds right now. I lift weights a lot with my high school coach and then we go straight from there into shooting drills, ball handling and ball skills with the big weighted ball. I also work on my post moves inside as well.

Have your post moves always been a natural part of your game-or something you've worked hard at developing?
Yes sir, I've realized that I'm not going to be the most athletic player so I just play my style of game and use my fakes and use my skills that I know that I do best to my advantage.

From a fit perspective I'm sure you are evaluating your skills and seeing where they are suited best with colleges recruiting you, can you share what kind of programs you think will do a good job utilizing your skills as a player?
Well I think I mostly play like a stretch 4 so any school that plays kind of a 4-out, 1-in is the best fit for me. I want to keep showing that I can be versatile and that's my biggest asset.

Shifting gears to recruiting, who would you say is recruiting you the hardest?
I was at Virginia [last] Monday, I'm also visiting North Carolina. Clemson and Notre Dame have offered, and I'm probably going to visit Notre Dame in July. I'm also thinking about visiting NC State after North Carolina.

What's your communication been like with the NC State staff?
I talked to Coach Lutz a couple of times, and I feel like I have a good relationship with him. I'm hoping it gets even better.

What have they shared with you about their style of play and what they do on offense and defense?
They have talked to me a little bit about that, but I haven't seen them very much. They play in the ACC. They've had some skilled guys at the 4-spot like CJ Leslie, he played inside and outside of the post. He's a little bit more athletic than me, but they do a good job in how they play, good team ball.

Has there been any communication from them regarding a scholarship offer?
No sir.

Is that a school you are hoping for an offer from?
Yes sir, I'm just trying to play my game and if one comes, I'd be elated about it.

How was the UVA visit for you?
It was good. I talked with Coach Bennett and Coach McKay, and they were both really nice. I like their style of play, and if I keep working hard, hopefully they will keep showing interest.

Did they indicate how they feel about you as a person and a player?
Yes sir, they said they really need a shooter. They had an open gym the other day and they said they really need a shooter and I think I shoot the ball pretty well, and I think it's one of my best assets. They love how high my basketball IQ is and how well I pass the ball. That's what I feel are some of my strengths and that was nice to hear from Coach Bennett.

Did UVA indicate they expect to give you a scholarship offer in the future?
Coach Bennett said he really needs to see me play because so far he's only seen me on film. Coach McKay has seen me a lot and he really likes me a lot, he's trying to get Coach Bennett to offer me but he says Coach Bennett doesn't offer anybody unless he's seen them in person. He's hoping to see me the first week in July, and I'm pretty sure he's going to offer after that.

How much of a pull is it for you with North Carolina that your parents went there?
It's not that much of a pull for me, I just feel like wherever fits me the best is where I'm going to go.

With not having offers yet from North Carolina, UVA or NC State—how much do you think it will affect your recruitment if any of them offer you?
I feel like I still have loyalty to Clemson and Notre Dame and Davidson and Charlotte just because they offered me first. I feel like it'd play into my decision, but I will talk with my parents in September and just hear their take on it and then see where it goes from there.

What kind of unanswered questions do you have when it comes to UVA, UNC and NC State?
I think playing with the guys at all 3 of those places would help a lot.
