Pack Pride checks in with freshman tight end/fullback Jaylen Samuels for an update on fall practice.

How are they using you right now in practice?
They are using me the same way they said they would when they recruited me.

They have me lining up at fullback, tight end, slot receiver and even at quarterback in the Wildcat.

I think they are going to use me well this year.

Which spot do you like the most?
My favorite is in the slot at the receiver. I like lining up in the backfield too, but I'm going in motion, getting jet sweeps, a lot of things.

I played a role like that at Mallard Creek. I was in a wing and I'd run around... I was running jets and all those types of things.

It's very similar. It's just faster-paced... a different game.

Has anyone at fullback or tight end been really helping you out?
Devin O'Connor has been helping me a lot. He's been here a while and he's been teaching me techniques, what I can do or not do. When we are in the film room, if he finds something I'm doing wrong he'll help me with that.

You carried the ball a lot in high school. Has blocking been an issue so far?
A little bit.

It wasn't always my thing, but now that I know I have to do that at the position, I'm taking it a lot more serious and getting better at it every day.

What has it been like working with coach Faulkner?
It's been great. He's a great coach. He's laid-back, but when you mess up, he'll get on you.

He's cool... I like him a lot. He's a really good coach.

Do you feel like you are going to have a role this year?
I think I'm going to play on special teams and offense.

He's telling me really good things.

What has stood out to you the most from practice?
Competing in practice. We compete every day and in every practice there are big plays being made on both sides of the ball.

We're going to be ready for Georgia Southern.

What player has impressed you the most?
Jacoby Brissett.

He's a really good player, really good leader. If we mess up he'll tell us. He just leads the team like he's supposed to.

What is an individual goal for you this season?
To make big plays.

That's what I've been doing and that's what I need to do. When I have a chance to make a big play I need to do it.

That's the big goal.
