Pack Evaluates Howard

NC State plans to take two offensive tackles in the class of 2015 and would like nothing more than to fill one of those spots with offensive lineman Michael Howard. Pack Pride has the latest on his recruitment.

NC State’s coaches are busy these days but they weren’t too busy to stop by Green Cove Springs (FL) to see one of OL Michael Howard’s (6-6, 250 pounds) recent games.
That they took time out of their schedule to go watch Howard in person is something that means a lot to him. That was the kind of thing the Wolfpack probably needed to do in order to have a chance at jumping up into Howard’s list of top choices.
Oregon, Missouri, South Carolina and Tennessee are the outside-the-state schools that he seems to be leaning towards. He told Chad Simmons that Wisconsin or Nebraska could get official visits. Contact might have to pick up a bit for NC State to work their way into a visit.
“I mean, right now I’m still pretty wide open with everything. Those five schools are really the ones I’d like to take officials to just because some of them are places I can’t get to by driving or pay for by myself but it’s still wide open.”
That means NC State still has a chance and that’s a window of opportunity the coaches looked to jump through with their trip to Clay High School.
“I know they were at the game and I’ve talked to them a couple of times over Twitter. I’ve talked to a couple of different coaches from there. I think one of them that’s been talking to me is Coach Nielson. He’s mainly told me about the academic program over at NC State.”
That’s a strong approach because academics are going to be Howard’s main consideration.
“Really it’s going to come down to the academic programs and how I feel about the school. I’m thinking about studying something like athletic training so I’ll be looking into that. Besides that I’ve just got to decide what school I can make my home for a little bit.”
If Howard’s decision hinges on his official visits then it will have to wait for a little while. Howard said he will not be able to make many of those official visits until after the football season. In fact he might just take one official during his season.

Howard is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 117 offensive tackle in the nation by He holds offers from NC State, Oregon, Tennessee, Florida and South Carolina among others.
