Doeren: "I'm Going To Build It"

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head coach Dave Doeren met with the media following the loss to Boston College.

"My hat's off to Boston College, they played better than we did and coached better than we did."

"It's frustrating and disappointing. To play in a game like that and all the breaks and interruptions... we just didn't play good enough to win."

"They pressed us up, did a good job of collapsing the pocket, didn't have a lot of places to throw the football it looked like."

"Their d-line did a nice job, they really did."

"Defensively I thought we showed some heart in the third quarter. Early on, we didn't play well and adjusted. I was proud of the guys for how they came out... with the lightning delay had to start there on the eight-yard line."

"You're not going to win many games when you score 14 points, you're just not. We have to be better than that."

"We have to get Jacoby back in what he's good at and keep on... I thought we came out, the guys had a good look to them... we just didn't find enough plays there offensively."

"They average 300 a game and that's what we gave them, so not good enough."

"They are so big up front. They have five graduates on their offensive line, five fifth-year guys who have graduated from college and I'm playing with 15 freshmen at times on defense. That's the deal. I know everyone, just like me, wants better results, and it's frustrating for me, it really is."

"They have five graduates on their offensive line, and I can't simulate that in practice. We fit up a lot of runs today and fit them well. Sometimes we knocked them back in the backfield and made plays, and sometimes they got us."

"Their quarterback is a very good athlete... he's a good runner."

"You can't turn the football over to teams like that and we did three times in the second half."

"It's hard to see if guys were open or not from the sideline, but he was holding the ball and not getting rid of it and that's not going to work."

"He had a great week of practice and we came out and had great rhythm going... that guy is so competitive and at times his competitiveness is just getting too much of him."

"[Bo Hines] sprained his ankle. He should be fine, just couldn't get enough strength in it to come back in the game."

"We just didn't get enough push up front. We had a few zones here and there but it just wasn't consistent."

"It's going to take time. We all want microwaved results, me included. I know our fans do, I get it."

"Two years in a row I haven't had an ACC player on the preseason list. It's going to take me time. At Kansas we had a bunch of freshmen playing on defense and four years later our defense was No. 1 in the nation."

"I just didn't inherit a cabinet stocked with redshirt seniors, so I'm going to build it with good players. We just have to teach them to have better technique, get off blocks and tackle."

"We're going to do it the right way... I'm going to keep my head up, work my butt off, and stay positive with my football team. We have a lot of games in front of us."

"I hear it way more than anybody, trust me. I want to get the monkey off my back, but it takes time."

"I'm not going to quit on myself, I'm not going to quit on my players, and I'm not going on my coaches. I just ask our fans to do the same for us, and if they don't, they don't. It's just going to take us time to get there."

"We're building a program. We have a lot of young kids playing, and I think recruits want to be a part of that."

"I know I need to win more here, I get that. I believe in what I've done in this profession, and I think it stands. I'm going to keep going and going."
