NC State has offered Snellville (GA) junior running back Jesse Brown and earlier this year the coaches convinced him to make the drive north for a visit.
That visit coincided with the Wolfpack’s game against Florida State, which was a huge recruiting showcase for Dave Doeren’s program. With the benefit of hindsight we can probably say it was the best weekend for Brown and many others to visit. Although NCSU is still winless in ACC play that game was competitive enough and the atmosphere wild enough to make for a good day for recruits.
“It was a great atmosphere. It was real loud and a high powered game,” said Brown.
The Wolfpack coaching staff like Brown’s (5-10, 185) all-around running style. They think he can tote it between the tackles or get to the edge and in space. He isn’t purely an all purpose back. He isn’t a bruiser. Snellville H.S. has benefited from his running to the tune of 780 yards and six touchdowns so far in 2014.
That was his first visit to NC State but it probably won’t be his last. Brown said he enjoyed himself enough to return one day.
“I like the program. It’s a good football program but I also like the academic aspect because it has my major (mechanical engineering). I couldn’t tell you how high they are on my list because I haven’t ranked them yet. But they are one of the top schools.”
Iowa, Georgia State, Yale and Mercer are the four other schools that have offered Brown. He hasn’t had much contact with the Hawkeyes since they offered. Conversely he has heard a lot from Duke although they have not offered yet. Brown has also visited Duke, Georgia State and Mercer.
Brown thought Duke was comparable to what he saw at NCSU though the two schools obviously excel in different areas and offer different experiences.
“They’ve shown quite a bit of interest too. Their facilities and program are almost equal to NC State. I like what they believe in and they also have really good academics.”
