Pack Enters The Chase For Four-Star Wideout

NC State has offered 4-star junior wide receiver Tavares Chase. He talks with Pack Pride about his plans to visit.

2016 WR Tavares Chase is used to the pace of the recruiting process by now. He’s got the nation’s top football teams and the most well known coaches beating down his door.

NC State offered Chase (6-2, 170) a month ago knowing full well how difficult it will be to pull the IMG receiver out of Florida. It’s not that Chase is unwilling to leave his home state. He’s open to that. With schools all over the country offering him Chase has thought about leaving home.

It’s just that the list of schools recruiting Chase is so long no one program can be thought of as having anything more than a modest chance of success.

“NC State was just telling me about the school when they offered me. They were talking to me about how I would fit in well and how they would love to have me up there.”

There may be a little room for optimism for the NC State coaches.

“I haven’t been up there but I’ve been talking to my granddad about it. He hasn’t given me a specific date yet but we’re probably going to go up there. Right now that’s the only school up that way that I’m thinking about visiting but if I do go up there then it’s going to be more schools that I visit.”

Florida and Florida State have hosted Chase as an unofficial visitor this year. He said he has a close relationship with the coaches at Florida State but he also said some of that has been overblown from some quarters. Chase said he knows Florida has had some tough moments this year but he went to their game against LSU and was still impressed with the fan showing and crowd support.

Chase plans to visit NC State and other schools after the season and he does not want to come up with any favorites before then.

He holds offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State and South Carolina among others. Chase is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 54 receiver in the nation by
