Locker Room Report: Wolfpack Players

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Several NC State players met with the media following the exhibition win over Queens.

Abdul-Malik Abu

"I have been dreaming the same dream for a long time. When you are a kid, you dream about playing college basketball. When you finally get the chance to do it, it is like you have been practicing for it for 10 years."

"The first half, I would not say we came out slow, but we were a little timid offensively."

"Playing in front of the fans that cheer you every day, we want to do it for them. Playing for the fans is something that is priceless."

"I believe we are one of the deepest teams. Whatever we can get from guys on any given day is something positive. People used to say that we relied on T.J. a lot and he did great things for us. This year, we don’t have that one guy that you can put 25 in the stat book before the game and then watch it happen. It is going to take a good effort every day."

Caleb Martin

"I think we started off a little slow but as we progressed during the game I think we played pretty well. We saw a lot of different defenses and that will help us a lot."

"It was fun. To come out and shoot at first, I was a little nervous. The team helped me a lot to get my open shots. Everybody was doing their job to help me get open. I think as a group, everybody did pretty well."

"When you get your chance to go out there, you’ve just got to send a message. I think all of our guards went out there and played well. People were coming off the bench and doing their part and nobody had to pick up slack."

"There should be no way we should have been down at all in that game. You miss shots, you make shots. They were making shots. They were playing well as a team. Coming out in the second half, we just had to shut them down on defense. We were determined to get stops."

Trevor Lacey

"You know how it is, you want to come out and be great."

"My role on this team is to set an example, to come out with energy and to set the tone. I was kind of letting my offense frustrate me. Shots that I make all the time were in-and-out. I was a little excited but it is frustrating when you know you can make those shots."

"I am glad this game doesn’t count. I was glad to get out here and play in front of the fans and get the feet wet out here. The second half, defensively, we can out with more intensity and guarded. That is what helps us get easy buckets."

"It felt good. I haven’t played in a year-and-a-half. I have been in gym working all summer and last year and it was a little frustrating but I did not let that affect my game and what we are trying to accomplish."

"We came out flat. In the first 10 minutes we were a little sluggish. The guys that came off the bench got us going."
