Gilmartin Likes the Pack

Charlotte (NC) Christian junior linebacker Ryan Gilmartin talks about his interest in NC State.

2016 LB Ryan Gilmartin has visited five schools since the summer and two of those trips impressed him the most. NC State was one. Penn State the other.
NC State and Penn State offer very different experiences to student-athletes and to Gilmartin in particular. One is an in-state school. The other is a Big Ten program. That’s just scratching the surface.
“I loved Penn State because of the fan base they have. It was unreal. There were 108,000 people all in one spot with the white out night when they played Ohio State. The fans were so loud. Then there was the way I was treated by the staff and the conversations we had. They helped me figure out what our next steps to take in recruiting should be.
“But NC State had that same feel of a big college town right there in Raleigh. I had a lot of fun there too.”
NC State has not offered Gilmartin but the Charlotte Christian linebacker said the coaching staff has been fairly active with him early. That leads Gilmartin to believe they have some interest. He said the coaching staff sends anywhere between four and ten pieces of mail on a daily basis.

Gilmartin was at NC State when the Wolfpack played Florida State so if there was a game in Raleigh that could rival the atmosphere at a place like Penn State that probably was the one to attend.

"I'm constantly in touch with coach Faulkner my recruiting coach. During the season we've only talked maybe one or two times but he came to one of my games and that went well. That was a great game for him to go to because I want to say I had 19 tackles.

Gilmartin said he will go to NC State's game against Wake Forest and plans to meet up with freshman WR Bo Hines while he is visiting.

We went to school together and that will let me get a feel for how it is to stay on campus. Bo tells me the staff likes me a lot. So does coach Faulkner and coach Huxtable does too. They recruited Chris Borland and they make comparisons to him all the time. It's a huge honor to be mentioned in the same sentence as that guy.

Me and Bo are really good friends. I was able to play with him for two years. My freshman year he was a junior. He took me under his wing when I was a freshman. He told em that a lot of people weren't going to like me being a ninth grader playing on varsity but he told me if I wanted to come over we could talk about some stuff. Hehad been in a similar situation.

Now Gilmartin is the older leader for Charlotte Christian with 96 tackles, four sacks and three passes defended.
