Jones Likes the Pack

Asheboro (NC) wide receiver Emmanuel Jones has State as one of his top schools in the early stages of his recruitment.

2016 WR Emmanuel Jones has an offer from NC State so that might explain his local preference for the Wolfpack. But there’s more to his interest in State than just the offer.

NC State hasn’t just offered Jones. They have talked to him on a regular basis. The coaches first started letting Jones know he was a player they liked during basketball season of last year. That means Jones has thought of himself as an NC State target for the better part of 12 months. That’s a long time to get to know a school and it’s coaches.

He likes how much they have reached out to him and he has returned that kindness with a few visits to the school.

Jones has been to NC State for two practices, the spring game and the early season game against Old Dominion. Those trips have allowed him to become more comfortable on campus and to picture himself wearing the red and white.

“I love their school. It’s in Raleigh so it’s an hour away from home. The football program is a really good football program and they’ve got a good atmosphere. I love the coaching staff.”

Jones (6-1, 185 pounds) has visited North Carolina and West Virginia this year too. The Tar Heels have not offered but Jones said he has a preference for NC State anyways.

“UNC was alright. It was pretty good. It wasn’t as good as State. I think it’s a better fit for me at State.”

West Virginia is a different story. Jones does not have a favorite but WVU and State have his ear.

“West Virginia was pretty awesome. They’ve got a really good atmosphere. I like the NC State coaching staff but also the West Virginia coaching staff.”

Jones had a 43-yard touchdown reception on Friday night, helping Asheboro to a 28-27 win over Marvin Ridge in the first round of the state playoffs. He is rated a three star prospect by Scout.com.
