Pack Making Run at South Carolina Commit
Kyle Davis is one of two players committed to South Carolina from the junior class. The 4-star tight end just is not ready to say recruiting is over.
There is a long way to go until Davis signs anything binding. Whether he chooses to sign financial aid paperwork and go to college early or wait until next February to sign there’s a long way to go. That is one reason he is willing to listen to what schools other than South Carolina have to say.
NC State has been talking to Davis (6-3, 209) since he was a sophomore at Archer HS and they finally gave him an offer when 2015 showed up on the calendar. Davis says it was an offer he was expecting and waiting on. He is still committed to South Carolina but he will listen to NC State and others.
“I’ll just say my final decision will be made next year.”
Ask Davis what he likes about South Carolina and why he picked the Gamecocks and he almost seems incredulous that the question would be posed.
“Have you been to Columbia before? It’s pretty nice up there. I like it a lot. I haven’t spent a lot of time up there but I’ve spent some time up there. I just felt like it was real nice when I visited.”
He has not been to NC State but if he says similar things about Raleigh then things could get interesting in a hurry. Davis said he will visit NC State because he wants to experience life fully as a recruit.
“It’s only a one time thing,” he reasons. “I’m planning on probably going with Kobe Smith on the 31st. I’m not sure yet. It’s a possibility.”
Smith is a defensive tackle from Archer’s junior class that is committed to NC State. Davis said he is good friends with Smith. He said Smith has already started to plant the idea of playing with the Wolfpack in his mind. He is not the only one doing that.
“It’s coming from everywhere. It’s a lot of people in Georgia that support NC State. It’s pretty much coming from everywhere. Me and Kobe have been pretty tight since the 4th Grade. I’m hearing from him, Coach Nielsen and some other people that like it there.”
Davis will be pulled in a lot of different directions in the year to come. Auburn, Tennessee, Cal and Michigan State have joined NC State as schools with recent offers out.
It is true that Davis does not change his mind on a whim. Georgia offered months ago and that was an offer he was looking for. He remains committed to South Carolina.
