NC State Offers Scales
NC State’s coaches have to be hoping their recent offer to Brendan Scales will get him to at least think about leaving the Midwest for college. The Wildwood (MO) tight end hasn’t spent much time on the East Coast but that could change.
It will change if NC State’s coaches have their way. After offering this week the Wolfpack coaching staff started to tell Scales they want him to make the long trip to their Junior Day at the end of January. Scales is more open to that than you might imagine. He likes the idea of seeing a new place. He has been to colleges in the past. But Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and Wisconsin have given him only one view of what the college life would be like. NC State would be a different view. It’s an ACC school rather than a B1G school and it’s on the coast.
Scales (6-4, 220) is going to camp at a lot of schools this summer so he will have a lot of chances to get out and see different parts of the country. Those camps will be important exposure. Nebraska and Wisconsin have new head coaches since he visited so he is not sure what those new coaches think about him.
He does know that NC State wants him.
It started with a simple private Twitter message from Eddie Faulkner. Faulkner asked Scales to give him a call at some point. Because Scales was on the way to watch one of his brother’s basketball games he totally forgot to put that call in. Fast forward to this weekend. Scales visited Iowa and the Hawkeyes offered. After Scales tweeted about that he finally got on the phone with Faulkner.
“I called him and was asking him questions. He was asking me questions about what I like in a college and about my family. He told me I had an offer. It was quick and fast. I didn’t expect it at all. He hasn’t told me a whole lot. I might be going to their Junior Day but I’m not 100%. He seems like a cool guy but they’re pretty new to me.”
Faulkner said the coaching staff watched Scales’ highlight video and decided that it warranted an offer after they did a little more homework on him outside of football. Scales does not have much to say about NC State yet but he did share his answer to Faulkner on what he wants in a school.
“Just the education, the town or city and the people around there. It depends. I don’t really know what I want yet. I’ve been to a lot of schools but I don’t know what I’m looking for yet.”
Scales likes the people at Iowa and he likes the coaching staff. He thought the players were friendly and he liked the city around the school. He has not heard from Nebraska or Wisconsin aside from letters since the coaching changes at those places.
