Recruiting Scene: Smith-Williams can be regarded as a classic sleeper prospect. The Raleigh-native entered the summer between his junior and senior years of high school without any Power-5 offers. That all changed when Smith-Williams showed up to the Wolfpack’s camp and ran a 4.53 40-yard dash along with a 10’3 broad jump.
The following day Smith-Williams was called into Coach Dave Doeren’s office and received his offer.
He would continue attending camps along the east coast and eventually add an offer from the Boston College Eagles before committing to the Wolfpack in late July.
Smith-Williams elected to enroll early and is already on campus at NC State.
Why NC State? “They had been leading for a while. I wanted to make sure it was the right fit for me and after talking a lot about it with my mom I knew that it was.”
Picked NC State Over: Boston College
Scouting Report: “Potential is the best word to describe Smith-Williams. He is long and athletic and very fast for a linebacker. Smith-Williams was most effective in high school rushing the quarterback and may be able to carve out a nice niche for himself at the college level doing the same on third and longs. As with most high school athletes going up to the college ranks Smith-Williams will need to focus a lot of his effort on getting physically ready for the wear and tear of the game.” – Pack Pride Scouting Report
