Recruiting Scene: Despite NC State’s early offer to Johnny Frasier the Pack would have quite a mountain to climb to secure his commitment. During the spring Frasier seemingly had more interest in every school that had offered him—and there were many—than he had in the Wolfpack. The NCSU coaching staff remained undeterred and continued their pursuit of the small-town phenom.
Toward the end of the summer Frasier gave a verbal commitment to Florida State but immediately admitted he would continue to keep his options open. The efforts of the Wolfpack staff were rewarded in September when Frasier made consecutive unofficial visits to Raleigh for home games against both Presbyterian and FSU.
It was at that point that the tides started turning in the recruitment of Johnny Frasier. However, two visits to Tennessee in October, for both an official and unofficial would cause some confusion but any interest in the Volunteers died away quickly. Through the late fall and early winter Frasier would schedule official visits to Alabama, FSU and South Carolina but ultimately failed to actually make any of them.
Coming off participation in the NC/SC Shrine Bowl and the Army All-American game Frasier scheduled two OVs to Alabama and NC State which all but solidified his recruitment coming down to a two-team race. Once news started leaking that Frasier had not boarded his flight to Tuscaloosa the writing was on the wall.
The following weekend Frasier made the trip to Raleigh and ended all speculation while still on his official visit.
Why NC State? "I talk to them and you hear where they are coming from. In the beginning you think, like with a lot of schools, they are just telling you what you want to hear, but with them it's facts. At first I really didn't care for [NC] State. But then you sit down and realize what they have going on, what they've got planned... it's going to be amazing."
Picked NC State Over: Alabama, FSU, UGA and others
Scouting Report: “There is not much Frasier does not do at a very high level. He is a back with great size and he runs with great balance. He gets the tough yards inside running through tackles and he has the speed to the get to the perimeter. "He is a complete back who will stay on the field on the next level. He shows a nice burst and he also can catch the ball well out of the backfield. Frasier is productive, strong, and quick." -Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Chad Simmons
