It's All A Dream For Baumann

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State's top draft prospect could be punter Wil Baumann, who had a breakout senior season for the Wolfpack.

NC State's top draft prospect could be punter Wil Baumann, who had a breakout senior season for the Wolfpack.

An All-ACC selection, Baumann finished sixth nationally in punting, averaging 45.4 yards per punt. It was the top mark in the country for a college senior. He also led the ACC with 20 percent of his punts downed inside the 10-yard line.

Baumann's play led to an invite to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, but he felt like the performance he put on yesterday was better than at the combine.

"Indy wasn't as good as today," she said. "I just punted alright, of course I'm pretty harsh on myself... a perfectionist. Maybe I did a little better than I thought."

He kicked indoors at the combine but was able to kick outside in Carter-Finley Stadium for the pro scouts.

"This is real weather for a game," said Baumann. "It's a beautiful day. 55 degrees and the sun is out... I liked it."

What type of feedback has Baumann received?

"They were pretty pleased," he said. "Hopefully I'll get some more workouts, more evaluations. It's in their hands, and we'll work on it from there."

Baumann signed with Glenn Schwartzman and Alliance Sports Management, based out of Boca Raton, Florida. Some notable clients of Alliance Sports Management are: Matt Bosher (Falcons), Jay Feely (Bears), and Cody Parkey (Eagles). The agency also represents former NC State basketball player Brandon Costner.

The Wilmington (NC) native is working out in Raleigh and is on track to graduate in May. Baumann, who grew up a Carolina Panthers fan, is thrilled to be this close to potentially playing in the National Football League.

"It's awesome," he said. "It just kind of creeps up on you. Then you realize it's here. It's a dream right now, just being at Pro Day working out and having an opportunity to play... hopefully keep my dream going."
