Pack Cracks Top Five For Pine

NC State lands in linebacker Chase Pine's top five after he recently visited the Wolfpack.

NC State was a recent addition to the offer list for Williamsburg (VA) Lafayette LB Chase Pine. They joined the likes of Georgia, California, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Wake Forest and Virginia among others who have made an early scholarship pledge to the 2016 linebacker.

Pine followed up on the Pack's offer by making an unofficial visit to NC State roughly two weeks ago. Although he may have went into the trip without a lot of knowledge of the Pack, he left with State firmly among his list of top schools.

"I visited NC State and UNC (May 8). NC State was good. They showed me a lot that I didn't know they actually have. But NC State is up top with the whole recruiting process now. With UNC, we got there late so didn't get to see it all but I'm coming back down there for another visit.

"Coach Barlow is recruiting me but I've been talking to coach Huxtable as well. We connected on everything. That was first time going there and I was the only one there so they were all on me and it was good being the only one there and having a chance to talk to all the coaches I needed to talk to. I saw the new indoor practice facility. It wasn't finished but it was huge and is probably going to be one of the best in the country."

While the Pack landed in Pine's top five, there's a national program lurking in the background.

"NC State is in my top five but the one I want the most is Notre Dame. They came to my school. I'm going up there to the Irish Invasion on June 19 so I'll be ready for that."

As for that top five, Pine named Notre Dame, California, Pittsburgh and Syracuse in addition to NC State.

Pine has formulated a general time frame for when he plans to announce and what he'll be focused on when he makes that decision

"I'm probably going to make my decision during the middle to end of my senior season. I'm just looking for the family type of thing. Playing time is important for everybody but if I started as a freshman that would mean a lot. I'm planning to major in sports medicine."
