"Actually I was planning on coming up this Sunday, but I wasn't so sure I'd camp," said Evans. "I didn't plan on camping but if NC State is in my top five I need to work with them."
Evans was able to spend plenty of time with linebackers coach Dave Huxtable, and that left a positive impression.
"He's a great guy," Evans said of Huxtable. "I had a lot of fun. He's awesome... great working with him. I asked the starting linebacker what it's like working with him and he said exactly what you're getting right now. If that's the truth... that's pretty good."
At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Evans is a hot commodity. He holds offers from programs like NC State, North Carolina, Auburn, Illinois, and Louisville among others, and he has spent time visiting all of the programs under consideration.
His travels aren't done yet.
"I'll be visiting a few schools here soon... eight or nine," he stated. "At first it was going to be five but then I thought I'd make the rounds because you only get to do this one time."
While he's not ready to name a top five or leaders, Evans admitted that two programs have caught his attention.
"Last week I told you Auburn was in my top five, and I'll tell you right now NC State is also," he said. "Those two are definitely in my top five."
A major factor for NC State is the relationships he has with a trio of PACK16 commitments. He grew up with Wolfpack cornerback commitment James Valdez and currently plays with defensive tackle verbal Kobe Smith. Evans has also known safety commitment Tim Glass for a long time.
Smith and Valdez joined Evans in Raleigh on Sunday.
"We've been talking about it," Evans said when asked about possibly joining them on the next level. "It's always great to be playing with somebody I've been playing with since I was six years old.
"Me and James, we've been best friends for as long as I can remember. Kobe, I met him about two years ago training with him. Tim Glass, I've known him since I was 12 or 13. it would be great to play with those guys. That would be somewhat like a dream."
Evans is closing in on a decision. He hopes to have his commitment finalized prior to the start of his senior season.
"Within the next month or anytime before the season," he stated. "Probably before August training camp."
Evans is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 32 inside linebacker in the country by Scout.com.
