Summer Will Be Busy Time For Gilbert

Fayetteville (NC) Terry Sanford cornerback Mark Gilbert will visit several schools this summer starting with NC State.

NC State hopes to land one more cornerback in the class of 2016 and Fayetteville (NC) Terry Sanford standout Mark Gilbert may very well be their top candidate for that spot.

Although he's made several prior visits to NC State, Gilbert was back in Raleigh last weekend for an overnight stay. He told Pack Pride that the purpose of this latest tour of schools is to get a feel for the players he'll be lining up with for the next four or five years.

"This is like the second go around of visits, mainly to get around the players. I was just trying to bond with the players and get a feel for them. I've been staying with Freddie Phillips, mainly him.  They're just a really good group of guys. I'll do it at a lot of schools- overnight visits."

NC State won't be the only school Gilbert checks out as the next month or so will be full of college visits as he closes in on a summer time decision.

"I'll probably be at Duke. Me and Isaiah (Stallings), we're going to South Carolina the 20th of this month. I'll probably go back up north- Pitt and Penn State, West Virginia, Michigan- a bunch of schools."

So where does NC State stand with just a couple of months to go before a potential commitment?

"State is one of my top schools. They're definitely one of my top schools right now. I don't have a list right now but I'll be announcing it soon- probably in the next month or so. My decision will be shortly after that."

Gilbert is rated a three star prospect and the No. 52 cornerback in the nation by
