"It was a great trip," said Matthews. "I'm glad I did it. I got to see head coach Mark Gottfried, and coach Lutz took me around campus. I saw T.J. Warren working out... that was cool. I also got to see the guys go through drills... the Twins. It was a good visit for me.
"The accolades that NC State has... I went to the coach's office, and he had mulitple pictures. Overall, I had a good time there."
Matthews had a chance to speak extensively with coach Gottfried about his potential role with the Wolfpack.
"Coach Gottfried just told me to come in and put the ball in the basket," said Matthews, laughing. "He said that's what he likes most about me, that I can put the ball in the hole."
NC State, Georgia Tech, Temple, VCU, and DePaul are a few of the programs that have offered Matthews, and as of now, the Wolfpack hold the lead.
"NC State is at the top of the list," he stated. "I feel at home there. It's not like I'm leaving... I'm just going to another state to play ball.
"The bond is there. The coaches love the players, and it's family-oriented. Also, a few of them played for Takeover so that helps too."
"They definitely want me to make that decision now," he added. "But, I'm still waiting on the Peach Jam to weigh my options."
The 6-foot-6 wing will be at the Peach Jam with Team Takeover, and he continues to find his role with the squad. He's averaging 9.4 points while playing 17.8 minutes per game.
"It's kind of been a struggle but I'm fighting through it," he said. "We have two top 20 players on the team and the main focus is them so I'm trying to do other things like defend and rebound.
"I want to keep improving my defense... being able to stop the next man from scoring."
Does he have a timeframe for a decision?
"I don't, but we are talking about it now more than we were at first," Matthews said. "I don't really have a time, maybe around November."
