Since March, Iowa, Notre Dame, Miami, Michigan, N.C. State, Oklahoma, Missouri and Florida have all extended offers to the 2017 four-star quarterback of Brownsburg, Indiana.
Johnson has a full schedule of visits on the docket for this summer, and it started last weekend when he visited Florida.
"It was good," Johnson said. "They came in the school late in the school year, and they wanted me to come down and camp. I think it's a school I would definitely be interested in, but I'm just trying to get to know the coaching staff better."
Next, Johnson will head to Stanford (June 16) to see the Cardinal for the first time and participate in camp in hopes of adding an offer.
"We are going to go out to Stanford to check them out," Johnson said. "That's coming up soon. I'll camp and then spend time at their junior day. We are squeezing the visits in because we don't have a lot of time."
On July 19, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound quarterback will visit Notre Dame.
"I just want to work with coach (Mike) Sanford," Johnson said. "I'll go to camp with him then hopefully stick around and get to know coaches better."
Johnson maintains weekly contact with the Irish offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
"I think my relationship with (Sanford) is just trying to get to know him better," Johnson said. "It's kind of casual. I feel like our personalities our very similar, so it's easy to talk to him."
The Irish are unsure if they'll take a quarterback in 2016, a factor that could carry weight in Johnson's decision.
"They've talked to me a little bit about that," Johnson said. "They're still a little iffy there. They're really sure what they're going to do, so I don't know about that too much."
Notre Dame, Northwestern, Penn State and Tennessee are among the programs consistently mentioned as contenders for Johnson, but other schools have made their recruiting presence known as well.
"I feel like N.C. State is recruiting me hard," Johnson said. "And then also Oklahoma. I talked to the entire Oklahoma coaching staff on the phone last week. We might try to go to Missouri and hit Oklahoma in the same week coming up soon."
Johnson will visit Penn State in mid-July and North Carolina later that month.
"It's a big recruiting day at Penn State when they have their cookout, so I'm looking forward to that," Johnson said. "Right now, I'm just visiting UNC when I go down there, but I may try to visit N.C. State, too."
A decision for Johnson is possible before the start of his junior year.
I've been thinking a lot about when I am going to make my decision," Johnson said. "I just want to make sure that when I do commit, it's the right one. I really don't have a timetable per say that's anything specific, but it could happen whenever I feel it's right."
