Chesapeake (VA) Grassfield defensive end Patrick Jones has several schools that each offer a little something different that he likes. Because he can’t quite decide which he likes most Jones is not ready to make a decision.
He might not be ready to make a decision for a long time. The summer is a time when a lot of the players still on the board decide to make their choices known. Others either intentionally drag their decisions out because they want to take official visits or they just decide they can’t choose yet.
Jones does not seem to be the kind of person to take officials just to take them and he says he is not sure of where he wants to go yet. So he will wait.
“I’m gonna take some officials in the fall. I don’t have anything decided on yet but I know I’ll be taking some.”
It is possible Jones could visit NC State. He has been there before and he still likes everything he knows about the Wolfpack. That first visit went well for Jones (6-5, 223) and the coaches have stayed in steady contact with him.
“They offered a while ago. I went down there once just for an unofficial in the springtime. It was a junior day. I liked the whole coaching staff. I liked the head coach a lot. I liked the dorms and the style of everything. Coach Barlow is a good coach and he’s been talking to me. They like me as a defensive end.”
Most schools are telling Jones they like him as an outside linebacker or at least a defensive end that can play some outside linebacker. NC State is a little different because of their preference for him on the defensive line. When Jones visited NC State months ago the coaches detailed their plan for how they want to put his talent to use in their defense. He seemed satisfied at the time. Their talks since then have been more about continuing to get to know Jones than going over the same information in that talk about scheme.
All of the schools that have offered Jones still go back and forth with him over the phone or through other methods of communication. For the most part Jones has been recruited by ACC schools with Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest as his other offers.
June has been an exciting month for Jones. He was offered by Virginia Tech this month and in track and field he’s been a star. At the New Balance Nationals and the state championships he did very well in the discus.
