Duncan (SC) Byrnes WR Chavis Dawkins is not sure of where he wants to spend his college future but he is sure that NC State is one of his best options. Dawkins has been saying for a while that NC State is recruiting him harder than any other school and he is still saying that as recently as lastweek.
Chavis recently told Pack Pride that recruiting this summer has been moving at a slow pace but part of that is his doing. He is not fanning the flames and is getting to know coaches that are talking to him behind the scenes. That means Dawkins (6-2, 195) has not been using his time to visit colleges. There have been passing tournaments and work to improve before the season but visits will come later.
“I’m just trying to wait until some games when I can take officials. I’m talking to some people but I’d say it’s been pretty quiet.”
Des Kitchings is one of the coaches that Dawkins knows best. NC State was the first school to offer and that gave Kitchings and other coaches at State a head start on some of the other schools that have come in since. The Wolfpack offered Dawkins last summer so he has had a full year to think about the Pack.
In that time he has come to believe that NC State is a good option. He has not become convinced it is where he needs to be yet. That conclusion might still be reached but Dawkins needs time and probably an official visit. On such a visit he would meet with Kitchings, Dave Doeren and a lot of the players in the program in a way he has not been able to yet.
“I talk to Coach Kitchings a lot and he tells me a lot of different things about the school. Not just about the football program but about the school too. From everything I know about it I like it. I went there for a scrimmage they had earlier this year and I went for a game last season. I liked the atmosphere they had down there. It was real good. That’s when they played Florida State. The scrimmage was good too.”
NC State likes Dawkins as a wide receiver as do the coaches at Appalachian State, Georgia Southern and the other schools that are making him feel most wanted. Dawkins also holds offers from Louisville and Wake Forest.
