Shelby (NC) Crest offensive lineman Kollin Byers grew up dreaming about one day running out of the tunnel into Carter-Finley Stadium. The Wolfpack has been a part of his life for years and on Saturday when the State coaches extended a scholarship offer it was literally a dream come true.
"This has been my dream school ever since I was little," Byers told Pack Pride. "I always came to games and watched. They offered me so I just went ahead and took it. They had been recruiting me for about three or four months. My family was real happy for me because they're all die hard State fans."
Byers virtually committed on the spot upon learning of the Wolfpack's offer and the NC State coaches were thrilled with his decision.
"All the coaches were congratulating me and they were real excited. Coach Uremovich was recruiting me. He's let me know to keep my grades up and have a great senior season and that's what I'm going to do."
Byers had previously been committed to UNC-Charlotte while entertaining interest from Wake Forest, Elon and others.
Listed at 6-4, 250 pounds, Byers will need to pack on size before arriving in Raleigh but there's plenty of time for that. For now, the rising senior is just thrilled about the chance to live out his football dream.
"It's so exciting watching them run out of the tunnel and all the pregame stuff and now I'm glad I'm going to be a part of it."
