Locker Room Report: Dave Doeren

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head coach Dave Doeren met with the media following the win over Troy.

"It's good to be 1-0. That was fun to watch a lot of things tonight. We didn't turn the ball over, that was one of our keys to victory. I thought we ran the ball hard, and we were very efficient throwing the football."

"Jacoby did some good things distributing the football... made some good decisions."

"We knew they were an uptempo team and the best way to beat those teams is to have long drives and score touchdowns."

"I'm proud of our offensive linemen, tight ends ,and receivers for making that happen."

"I'm really proud of our crowd."

"The players thank you and hopefully we can continue to do that."

"We had some great recruits here tonight that love seeing that."

"Defensively we were disappointed at the end of the first half and challenged those guys in the locker room. We had two turnovers in the second half."

"Mike Stevens had a nice pass breakup and pick; I'm happy for him."

"We got to play a lot of people. That was a very valuable fourth quarter for a lot of young guys."

"Now Nyheim won't be nervous next week, and Reggie won't be nervous next week, and Darian won't be nervous next week."

"Jaylen Samuels continues to make a lot of plays when he touches the football. He averaged nine yards per carry again."

"126 yards, five yard average, made guys miss, and took care of the ball. He ran like we thought he'd run to be honest with you. He was like that all through camp. He was really excited about his role tonight and it showed. "

"His practice on Tuesday was unbelievable... how hard he went. I texted him Tuesday night and said, 'if you practice like that no one will touch you in the game," and he said, 'that's what I'm trying to do.'"

"Jumichael Ramos practiced really well all week, and he had a great game for him... he had a catch in tight coverage, and the catch in the endzone, just going up and getting it."

"If we are in the top three in the ACC in least penalized, least turnovers, and most takeaways, we're going to be hard to beat."

"He's earned it. I'm really proud of Jumichael. He had failure and a lot of guys don't know how to handle that. He handled it by working."

"It's maturity and that's what you want."

"Bra'lon Cherry made some great plays tonight too... he made some guys miss."

"It's a great learning example for some of our other players."

"I'm proud of Jumichael for that."

"That's what we want to be able to do, get a lead like that where we can play a bunch of people."

"Dravious Wright is a guy that can spark us. He's a high-energy player. We lost some guys that were those guys. Last year, Art Norman, T.Y. McGill, and Thomas Teal were those guys."

"It was a field blitz... he came unblocked and did a nice job of hitting him in the chest, a nice, legal hit. It was a huge play."

"We need him to be that kind of guy."

"One of them was a run that we misfit. I have to see why the safety wasn't back there to get it down. The end and nickel were gap-exchanging on that play and didn't fit it right."

"I was disappointed in the two fades they caught. Jack ended up having to come out of the game, but I expect him to make those plays. I know he's really mad at himself right now."

"We can't be a defense that gives up big plays."

"He's fine. He just banged his knee... he'll be fine."

"Schooley did cramp, and he was really mad at himself. That's something we talked about."

"It was humid out there and he played a lot of snaps. Offensively we had 84 snaps so he was out there quite a bit."

"[McKever] could have played tonight."
