NC State redshirt freshman offensive lineman Will Richardson spoke with Pack Pride after practice about making his first career start and much more.
Describe the experience of having your first college game and start on Saturday?
It was a great experience just getting out here with the team being last year was my redshirt freshman year, so I didn't get to see the field at all. Just being able to go out there and knowing exactly what I wanted to do, had to do, and then go out and execute was just great.
Was the speed of the game different from high school and practice?
Definitely. The speed is a real big then. Another big thing is just going the whole game against these guys at the college level. In high school you had a few guys that were actually my size. Now everybody is my size and really good at the end position but now everybody is good, everybody is really fast. Just going the full game and taking no plays off, it will get you.
The NC State offensive line has several veterans. Who has emerged as the leader that is helping you adjust?
Definitely Joe Thuney. Ever since I first got here, Joe Thuney has been a really good leader towards me. He shows me the things to do right. The little things to work on.
Also, Alex Barr. He played tackle last year--right tackle, the position I play. He just tells me the keys and a lot of little things in order to become better.
Describe Coach Uremovich.
He is a great offensive line coach. I think one of the things about 'Coach U' is he goes into detail and he can give an analogy for any kind of blocking scheme. Just by him giving those type of analogies it makes it easier for us offensive linemen to pick up our schemes, know who we have got on blitz pick-ups and other stuff like that.
How tough of a challenge is Eastern Kentucky this coming Saturday, especially with Noah Spence?
I think it will be a tough challenge for our offensive line as a whole. Their defensive line, they have a good defensive line there. Spence in particular, he is very fast off the ball, very physical, and he takes no plays off so I think that will be a good challenge for us this weekend as an offensive line to see how we do against them.
How well do you think you guys played in the win over Troy?
I think we played great as a team. As an offense also. We have a lot to work on as a team, a lot of people who still need development that can be key pieces to this team but as long as we keep working we have a bright outlook this year.
