Stevens: "I Am Ready"

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Pack Pride checks in with NC State sophomore cornerback Mike Stevens.

Pack Pride recently spoke with NC State cornerback Mike Stevens, and the sophomore from Davidson, North Carolina has seen extensive action in the Wolfpack’s first two games.

Jack Tocho has missed some time but it appears the NC State secondary has not missed a beat.
We all stay close but we know it is football so if somebody goes down, the next guy's got to be up so we always prepare that way--preparing to take the next rep if somebody goes down.

What do you know about Old Dominion?
They are a spread offense--no huddle. They like to run the ball but they also like to throw it out there so we have to be prepared for that.

Do you have a preference when preparing for an offense?
I don’t care. I am ready. I am just coming to work everyday focused ready to learn and get better.

We are based off hard work, coming in everyday, seeing what the scheme is and getting better from it and learning tendencies. Coach has got it set up where we go hard but we don’t get as fatigued. We are less injury-prone but more focused and it is a lot better.

This is NC State’s first road game of the season. Do you embrace the challenge of playing in opposing stadiums?
I love road games. I like going to other stadiums and making their fans be quiet.

Six of the next eight games for NC State are on the road. Can the Wolfpack handle this stretch and be an elite team in 2015?
Definitely. With our work ethic and our humility, we are just going to stay focused and work.

How well does practicing against the NC State wide receivers prepare you?
Everyday is a challenge. We are going up against good receivers and getting better so it is definitely a big key in how we play on Saturdays.

Which ones stand out to you?
I would say Jumichael Ramos, Maurice Trowell, Johnathan Alston, and Bra’Lon Cherry. Those guys give me good reps. We have been going at Ramos this year. We are making him better, and he is making us better.
