NC State's Jaylen Samuels And Mike Rose Meet The Media

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State's Jaylen Samuels and Mike Rose met with the media to discuss the upcoming game against South Alabama.

 Jaylen Samuels

"Our main goal is to be efficient on third down this year.  We've been doing a pretty good job the first three games."

"We're trying to stay on the field."

"We don't change anything.  First down we try to get half, second down we try to get even more."

"I can tell by the eyes of the defenders. We do a lot of shifts and motions and once we get in the redzone we try to get the linebacker's eyes moving, so I can see it in their eyes."

"So far we've been doing pretty good. We have a lot of things we can work on. So far we've been pretty efficient on offense."

"We just have to keep working each week."

"I think the new guys have done good.  Will Richardson stepping in at right tackle, he's been doing pretty good."

"Shadrach Thornton adds another weapon to our running game."

"They are all blocking pretty good this year."

"I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing.  Whenever coach Canada calls a play I'm going to keep doing it to my best ability."

"Last year my role wasn't as big as it is this year.  When the game comes I just try to prepare during the week."

"The No. 1 thing that coach Faulk stressed on me this offseason was getting better in my run blocking... that was the main thing I worked on."

"When I see Matt Dayes and Shad run through the hole it's very exciting."

"I wasn't really highly recruited coming out of high school because of my size and the position I played.  I was being recruited by State and coach Faulk always kept coming to my school and telling me how they were going to use me the same way they did in high school."

"I don't really look at the rankings and stuff. I just go out there and play ball.  For those coming up, keep doing what they are doing, work hard, and go to college."

"Last year I was up to 235 and this offseason I tried to get down 10 pounds. I'm weighing about 220 right now.  I feel faster and I feel like I can move better. Coach V has been working with me in the weightroom pretty good. I feel like I have more muscle mass now."

"We do a lot of shifts and motions where I can be as a wing, in the backfield, or as a receiver. I think this offense really fits me because I can do differnt types of things."

"I don't think I'm a pretty good quarterback, not throwing the ball."

Mike Rose

"We stuck together."

"I think just getting to the ball, getting hats to the ball. We've put a big emphasis on running to the ball."

"You'll see like eight guys in the camera frame at the end of the play, and that's what we want."

"First down is a big down for us. We've been focusing on getting them behind the chains and then on third down we can pass rush."

"We want third-and-longs so the less second-and-shorts we have the better."

"We're fresh. The defense, we feel good.  We haven't really played much this season.  Our offense does a good job of keeping us off the field, so the longer we're off the field the better."

"I hope so. Turnovers, we haven't had a turnover in two games.  We need to step our turnovers up."

"The sacks will come when we play more traditional schools. When you play a lot of spread offenses it's hard to get sacks sometimes."

"They have a really good right tackle, I think it's #55.  A transfer quarterback from UAB... they are a good team, a good offense.  I watched the Nebraska game."

"We get to watch a movie sometimes."

"Kentavius Street had a really good game last game."

"They've definitely been holding it together and playing very well for us."
