Five-star prospect Edrice Adebayo was on NC State's campus this weekend for an official visit, aaccording to Adebayo's mentor, Eric Peartree, "Bam" had a great visit.
"It was exciting," said Peartree. "I think he had a great time. It was electric, with Clemson in town and just being able for him to interact with the fanbase. Bam's mom was able to come for the weekend and so overall it was a great experience.
"Junior [Smith] was there with his family. I really believe it was like a homecoming for Bam... it was like being back with family again."
Adebayo spent time with the Wolfpack players and coaches, he attended a team practice, and he also was in Carter-Finley Stadium for the football team's big matchup against No. 3 Clemson. What was the highlight of the trip?
"For Bam I think it was just walking through the crowd and hearing kids call out Bam," said Peartree. "They weren't saying Edrice Adebayo, they were saying Bam. Little kids wanted to take pictures with him and were looking at him like he was a superstar.
"That's special, and I think it meant a lot to him. It's one thing for adults to know who you are, but when little kids embrace you like they did him, I think that caught his attention."
NC State head coach Mark Gottfried used a helicopter to visit Adebayo's mother on the first day of the evaluation period, and she was in Raleigh this weekend checking out the Wolfpack. According to Peartree, she had a great time as well.
"Well, she loves family and is a die-hard country girl," said Peartree. "We're a close-knit family and believe in family values... thick and thin. I think she wants someone that's going to love him and take care of him. Now, you have to get on him too, she knows that as well, but I do think she wants Bam somewhere she can go see her baby. She wants to be able to see him."
Adebayo has now taken official visits to NC State and Kentucky, and he has taken unofficial trips to Auburn and Wake Forest. The Fall Signing Period begins November 11th... that is the earliest Adebayo can sign a National Letter of Intent.
Previously Peartree had indicated that Adebayo would take all five official visits. Where does he now stand with his recruitment?
"Well, Bam is taking a couple of days off to relax," said Peartree. "He started practice [on Monday] and in another 10 days he will be playing his first game.
"I'll say this. Bam is getting his head clear, and we have a surprise in the making."
Adebayo is playing his senior season at High Point (NC) Christian Academy. He is currently ranked a five-star recruit and the No. 15 player in the 2016 class by Scout.com.
