NC State has announced that Fayetteville (NC) Trinity Christian standout Dennis Smith, arguably the nation's best point guard, has signed his letter of intent to play for the Wolfpack.
Smith originally committed to NC State in September.
"The biggest factor was how much they wanted me," said Smith. "They were the first school to come see me for my visits, and coach Gottfried was also at every game he could be at this summer. That means a lot. I knew he trusted me and was going all out for me."
Smith, a five-star recruit, is rated the No. 8 prospect in the 2016 class by Scout.com.
He is currently recovering from a knee injury he sustained over the summer but is expected to be 100% for his freshman season.
Smith averaged 21.8 points per game as a junior when he was named Gatorade NC State Player of the Year.
