Doeren: "We Didn't Make Enough Plays"

TALLAHASSEE, FL -- NC State head coach Dave Doeren met with the media after the loss to Florida State.

"I thought my team came out and played hard, forcing some really good takeaways."

"When you play a team like that you have to make a lot of plays to beat them.  You can't have drops... you can't make a good throw and catch and the ball comes out."

"Against a team like that we have to make every play we're capable of making... that's what it's going to take."

"I'm proud of the effort. I think they all believed in what they were doing.  It wasn't enough to win."

"Their quarterback got taken out because of the play of the defense early, and their backup came in and played well."

"We didn't make enough plays in the second half to win the game."

"I should have killed it at the end there,  I thought we'd get in on the sneak and score. That's on me... but I thought we'd score on the sneak."

"We bottled him up for a bit of the game."

"Again, it just comes down to execution."

"We talked about it during the week... we were going to play four quarters of football."

"At halftime I said it was 0-0... everybody was fired up. We just didn't make the plays we needed to."

"Everyone knows how talented he is, what impressed me was how tough he was."

"Tough kid... he's a really impressive back."

"It should have been a lot closer game being +4 in the turnover margin."

"Look, anyone that loses their first and second tailbacks are going to miss their guys right?  I don't care what team you are, you're going to miss them. Jay Sam plays hard and the other guys do too and are good players, but those were two pretty good running backs that we didn't have in the game. You're going to feel that."

"You're asking a lot for a kid to play all those positions, and he's doing the best that he can."

"[Riley Nicholson] has a great future, and he has got better and better.  He's a sure tackler, he's a good space player, and we just felt like we really needed to be able to change directions well in this game.  We'd missed some tackles in there at linebacker and having him and Airius out there together we felt like gave us our best chance."

"We love Jerod. Jerod's a tough kid and he's going to continue to play for us, but just having Riley and Airius in together we felt like was the best mix for us."

"He was just a special teams guy early in the season... the game is slowing down for him. He's going to be a good player here, really good."

"They were throwing quick game, a lot of hitches and stuff, and then they max protected. We were pressuring them quite a bit early int he game and then we had to start dropping into the zones because they were max protecting against the man-to-man.  They adjusted with some protection things obviously.
