It's a rare thing when an ACC school is caught recruiting in Louisiana. But that's exactly where the NC State coaches have been looking lately.
Don't expect NC State to offer many players from the Bayou. They did offer one- 2017 prospect Bryan Jones (6-5, 240).
"That was last Monday. They gave me a message in my inbox and it said to give them a call," said Jones. The rest was simple.
"The defensive line coach said he had come to one of my games and had watched me. He wanted to offer me so he offered over the phone."
Jones is a hometown recruit for LSU seeing as how he's from Baton Rouge. He has not been hearing from LSU so far. Oklahoma State, Purdue, Louisiana Tech and Lafayette have been recruiting him. He has not been heavily publicized but he is also becoming more recognized as a player that could quickly rise up the 2017 charts.
NC State is not a school that Jones had given a lot of thought to by the time he was offered.
"I've heard it's a great atmosphere and they're supposed to have a really good defense. It felt great to get that offer. It's a blessing to receive it."
Because the University of Lafayette and Southern University are close to where Jones lives he has visited those schools before. He has not been to State. Now that the offer is his with so much time left as a recruit Jones wants to visit. He just doesn't know when.
"They like my arms and my speed and how I get off the ball. From what the defensive line coach was saying he just likes my body."
