Greensboro (NC) Page wideout Diondre Overton is down at the Shrine Bowl looking to prove why he is considered one of the top wide receiver prospects in the region.
"It's a great chance to showcase your talent," said Overton. "There's a lot of big-time players out here, great competition in this game. It's going to be a fun game."
On the recruiting front, two schools have expressed the most interest in Overton, and they are his finalists.
"Right now Clemson and NC State are recruiting me the hardest," he stated. "That's why I've narrowed it down. Those two are recruiting me the hardest and showing me the most love. Those are the ones that really want me."
With that being said, most have Overton tabbed a Clemson lean even if he doesn't name a leader. What does he think of the rumors?
"I've been looking at NC State really hard the last couple of days, especially since I took my visit there," he said. "It's always been a great feeling to be at NC State, but it just takes time. It's definitely going to be a hard decision for me.
"Me and my parents will sit down and talk about it. There's no decision that's made right now. We're going to have a good discussion to see what's best for me, school-wise and playing-wise, but we haven't had that talk yet."
Both schools are represented with commitments in the Shrine Bowl, and during the week he's hearing why he should attend each school.
"There's a lot of commitments from both here," Overton said. "NC State has a lot of commits here and my friend Cornell [Powell] is here who is going to Clemson. They all are talking about the good aspects of each school, and it's hard. But at the end of the day it's going to come down to what's best for me."
At the end of the day, what will be the biggest factor in Overton's decision?
"I'd say education and playing time," he said. "f I go in and do what I need to do I can be in the mix as a freshman so playing time will be a factor, but it's also about the education."
