NC State commits Kollin Byers and Joe Sculthorpe formed the right side of the offensive line for the North Carolina squad in this year's Shrine Bowl. The pair performed well with most of the Tar Heel's rushing yardage coming on their side of the ball. Byers told Pack Pride that he enjoyed his time in Spartanburg and it gave him the opportunity to get to know and bond with several of his future teammates.
"The week went good. I got to interact with Dylan (Parham), Joe (Sculthorpe), Harrison (Gee) and some of the other Pack commits and we bonded well. Practice went great with all of them and me and Joe did a pretty danged good job on the right side so I can definitely see a future working with him.
"It’s a great feeling knowing I’m going to have Joe and Harrison and Dylan with me for the next five years and I’ll have some best friends for the next five years."
South Carolina held a three game winning streak against North Carolina and that was something Byers and his teammates focused on during their week of preparation.
"We talked about it all week and how we wanted to come out here and dominate against South Carolina and beat the. So to actually do it was a great feeling for everybody."
Byers was initially recruited as a blueshirt for NC State but that has recently changed. He will arrive at NC State next June and will be on scholarship next fall when the season begins.
Although the Pack had an up and down year in 2015, Byers said he believes the future is bright for the Wolfpack.
"We recruited a lot of great guys and I think we’re going to just keep getting better."
