During this week, we hope to profile these Florida high schools (subject to change based on time constraints):
Miami Killian High School: A "pipeline" to N.C. State, Killian produced current Wolfpack stars Pat Thomas and Andre Maddox. Last year, N.C. State was busy raiding Killian again, this time signing star Linebacker Stephen Tulloch and Cornerback Miguel Scott. This season's Killian squad is loaded with athletes, featuring Running Back Bobby Washington (Pictured) (Miami Verbal) and Cornerback J.R. Bryant (Miami Verbal). Coach Billy Rolle's squad is always a conference contender and the Wolfpack are one of the more successful programs at recruiting the Miami powerhouse.
Miami Edison High School: This year's Edison edition features at least three Wolfpack targets in Linebacker Brouce Mompremier, Offensive Lineman Jackie Claude, and Wide Receiver Jackie Chambers. Mompremier, in particular, has expressed heavy interest in N.C. State and paced the Edison defense with 118 tackles and 13 sacks. Claude, who has an offer from the Wolfpack, is one of the state's best offensive lineman and has offers from some of the nation's top college programs.
South Miami High School: South Miami's star is Linebacker/Defensive End Javier Estopinan (Pictured). Estopinan (Pictured), who's also the defending state wrestling Champion, is one of N.C. State's top targets early on, and boasts offers from Florida State, Ohio State, and Florida along with the Wolfpack. He recently camped in Raleigh and reportedly was one of the better prospects in attendance. Look out for an exclusive interview and film footage on this amazing Florida athlete!
Riviera Beach Suncoast High School: At Suncoast, our coverage will begin with "Mr. Versatile" himself, Dajuan Morgan. Dajuan did it all last season for Suncoast, playing Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, Cornerback, and Safety at one time or another. He has an N.C. State offer and the Wolfpack are battling Florida, Miami, and Tennessee among others for his signature. Want an "in" at the school? Try ex-Wolfpack target (and rumored verbal) Devin Hester, who's recruitment by N.C. State impressed the then younger Morgan. Hester has finally ended up in Coral Gables to play for the Miami Hurricanes and we hope to find out just how much he REALLY liked the Wolfpack.
Deerfield Beach High School: Deerfield Beach always produces some of the best prep talent in Florida, and this year is no exception, as they feature one of the state's best signal-callers, Brent Schaeffer. Schaeffer (Pictured) had an amazing junior season, passing for 2,600 yards 31 touchdowns, and rushing for another 15 scores. N.C. State has put an offer on the table to Schaeffer, and Brent has the Wolfpack on his long list of schools. Also hailing from Deerfield Beach is current State player, Tramain Hall. Hall, who endured several struggles before making it to Raleigh, could be considered the first "star" recruit of the Amato era, being one of few prep players ever tabbed a top-10 consensus recruit at three different positions (RB, WR, and DB). We will have more on Tramain's amazing story next week!
Ft. Lauderdale Dillard High School: Dillard is a program the Wolfpack have narrowly missed out on landing prospects from in past years, most recently Defensive End Stanley McClover, who ended up at Auburn. This year's star is Pat Sims, an outstanding Defensive Tackle prospect with offers from the likes of N.C. State, Florida, Ohio State, Auburn, and LSU. Film and pictures on Sims are a must because he could be one to watch come signing day next year.
Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas High School: St. Thomas Aquinas always... and I mean ALWAYS, produces Divison-1 talent and wins football games! Last year Coach George Smith's squad finished 13-2 with terrific players like Tavares Gooden (Pictured) (Miami) and David Marrero (Stanford). This year's team may not feature the "name" players as in past seasons, but you can count on them being in the conference hunt. Another ex-Aquinas star is the Wolfpack's jack-of-all-trades, Greg Golden. Greg's journey to Raleigh was an interesting one to say the least, and we will have all the details on his recruitment from Coach Smith.
Orlando Edgewater High School: Edgewater High School features two future college stars this year in Defensive Tackle Aaron Jones III and Wide Receiver/Safety Kenny Ingram. Jones, who some say is the best Defensive Tackle in the state, has offers from N.C. State, Miami, Florida, and Florida State among others. Jones, who's father was a first round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1988, had 70 tackles and 11 sacks last season. Ingram is one of the more versatile prospects in Florida, who has been projected to play any of four positions in college: Wide Receiver, Safety, Linebacker, and/or Defensive End. He has offers from Miami, Southern Cal, NC State, Florida State, and Ohio State among others. With studs such as these, Edgewater may be able to reproduce their 14-2 record from last year!
It's our goal to visit all of these programs next week, and we hope to gain valuable insights into current prospect leanings, the perception of the Wolfpack program in Florida, and "flashback" recruiting stories!
Stay tuned and sit back, relax, and enjoy the trip across the state of Florida!
