VIDEO: Thuney At The NFL Combine

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- NC State All-American offensive tackle Joe Thuney met with the media at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Thoughts on defensive line prospects Noah SpenceShaquille Lawson, and Sheldon Rankins...
They are different in all aspects.

Noah Spence is more of a speed guy... very fast around the edge.  Shaq had a nice combination of speed and power. He was great in the run game as well.

Shedlon rankins i a very powerful run-stopper. THey ran a 3-4 and he was very effective at plugging holes.

Sheldon is a tackle... how did you go against them all?
Sheldon would play ahead of the tackle in their 3-4 scheme... it would depend on what they do against us.

The defense was different than Clemson.

What are some of your biggest strengths as a player?
I think versatility and athleticism help a lot. I think I have the ability to get to the second-level.  I'm pretty quick off the ball... I fire off fast so those combinations are my strengths.

Is there a position on the line where you feel most comfortable?
I'd say the interior I'd feel most comfortable at the next level. I'm not 6'7, I don't have the height of the typical NFL tackle, but I'd still feel comfortable playing tackle.

I'm really comfortable at guard and center.

At the Shrine Bowl which teams did you hear from?
A bunch of different teams.  The Falcons, Patriots, Rams... the Chiefs... [a collection] of teams.

Have they said they want you in the interior?
Not specifically. I think the interior is more of the objective, but they haven't ruled out [tackle].

How much at guard did you play?
I started my entire junior year at left guard, and I started some at right guard and left guard my sophomore year.

There are a number of Alter guys in the pros. Have you talked to any of them?
Not yet. I haven't reached out to Nick or Chris who used to play. I always watched Nick [Mangold] growing up for the Jets and the Buckeyes before that.  He's a great, physical player. I really respect him a lot.
