NC State landed a big commitment on Friday when local standout Matt McKay verbally committed to the Wolfpack.  McKay, who plays for Wakefield High School, gave the Wolfpack coaching staff the news while on campus for an unofficial visit.

McKay, who also held offers from Pittsburgh and West Virginia among others, is a dynamic, dual-threat passer.  He has a strong arm, can throw on the run, and is athletic, as he posted a 4.65 40-yard dash on grass last summer at the Wolfpack's football camp.

As a junior McKay passed for over 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing for over 1,000 yards and 11 more scores. Recruiting Analyst Michael Clark is high on McKay.

"McKay is a true dual-threat quarterback," said Clark.  "He's comfortable in the pocket, but also has the ability to extend the play on the outside or take off and run. McKay has a quick release and a strong arm. He shows nice touch on deep ball and good velocity on intermediate passes.

"He needs to continue to improve on accuracy and add weight to his frame, but has a high ceiling and his best football is ahead of him."
